Society’s Pillai Institute of Management Studies
and Research, Navi Mumbai hosted the management
students from the St. Mary’s College of Economics
and Business, Moraga, California, USA for an intensive
management training program from June 29th to July
6th 2011. The theme of the program was “Indian Corporate
Models, Global Paradigms and Business Strategies”.
The program covered lectures by prominent academicians
on diverse topics ranging from cultural dimensions
in conducting business in India to India in the
current global setting. Dr. Vasudevan Pillai, CEO
of Pillai group of institutions, shared his experiences
on turnaround strategy for public private business
in the context of making the Pillai HOCL campus
a viable business option. The visiting professors
from US shared their learnings on strategy and high
technology with case studies. The students were
exposed to corporate strategies and global paradigms
applied by manufacturing and service industries
across various sectors. They also visited the iconic
institutions of Mumbai, The Reserve Bank of India
and The Stock Exchange and had an overview of their
functions. The welcome and farewell functions consisted
of various cultural programs which showcased the
abundant talent of the students from the Pillai
group, where the teaching and learning methods practiced
nurtures the overall development of the child.
The Pillai group of institutions
has been in the forefront in creating strong global
collaborative links to enhance management education
in India. The collaboration with St. Mary’s College
of Business and Economics was established in 2006
and they have hosted six groups of Pillai students
who visit the US every year to learn about American
business culture and strategy. The visit of the
US students to India to learn the business strategies
and management practices clearly indicates the contribution
and emerging role of India in shaping the future
of the world. The program exposed them to international
best practices and an understanding of the growth
story of an emerging economy.
Dr. Guido Krickx, Associate Dean and Director of
Graduate Business Programs at Saint Mary’s College
of California, observed that India is emerging as
one of the fastest growing economies in the world
and this visit to India was an enriching experience
due to the high quality of academic content and
excellent interactive sessions.
Dr. Daphne Pillai who spearheads the collaboration
said; it was a satisfying experience to host the
students to the city of Mumbai and the state of
Goa and showcase some of India’s leading business
houses with world class facilities.
